Kia ora e te whānau,
The senior school has the amazing opportunity to go to the Orewa surf school for a surfing and beach education day. Children will learn how to be safe on the beach and in the sea, how to choose a safe place to swim and basic surf skills on a surfboard in shallow waters (PTO for photos showing this).
When: Thursday 19th February
Buses will be leaving Hay Park at 8:50am sharp!
Where: Orewa Beach Surf Lifesaving Club
Who: Years 4, 5 & 6
Children will need to be at school by 8.30am. Senior classes will go for breakfast at 8.45am. It is very important that everyone arrives at school early to sort out their bags. Children will be back at school by 3:00pm.
All students will need to wear their full school uniform on the day. They must have a hat, footwear, water bottle, swimming togs (they can wear this under their uniform), towel, a warm jacket, a packed lunch and a rain jacket. Students are welcome to bring their own wetsuits (short or long) or they will be supplied by the surf school.
This session is a part of the NZ Health and PE curriculum. It will be focussing on swim and surf safety which is very important in NZ. This day of outdoor learning is by a Surfing NZ Approved Surf School. They have all the skills and expertise to run beach and surfing safety sessions for children.
Please indicate below that you give permission for your child to attend this learning opportunity and if you can come to help us on the day. Trips like these rely on parent helpers. If we do not get enough helpers we may not be able to go. A minimum of 6 adult supervisors will be required to assist in the water for surf lessons (they can supply you with a wetsuit).
Naku noa,
The Hay Park School Senior Team
Please ensure you have signed and returned the permission slip as soon as possible (thank you in advance if you have already done it).
